Violence on Television Can Have Negative Effects on Children
Watching repeated violence on television desensitizes children to violence, and similarly incorrect portrayals of sex on television may contribute to adolescent sex. Violence, and sex on television negatively impacts todays youth, and adolescents. In fact, a main contributor to these negative effects on children are caused by parents. Some parents pay little to no attention to the ratings of television shows, or movies, or the amount of sex, and/or violence their child sees on television. Studies indicate as follows,Many parents find the entertainment industrys media ratings systems difficult to use; 68% of the parents of 10 to 17 year olds do not use the television rating system at all (Anderson, Bushman 17). This is an astoundingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Studies had indicated that the more realistically violence is portrayed, the more likely it is to be tolerated, and understood. It is the way that violence is portrayed that makes the difference between learning about violence , and learning to be violent(Anderson, Bushman 19). For example, in Saving Private Ryan consequence, and realistic effects of violence are shown. Although its not recommended any child watches this movie, it shows violence in its purest form, emphasizing suffering, loss, and sadness. Unfortunately, most films, and television today almost glamorizes violence, with overexaggerated deaths, with much blood, and gore without any human cost. Much of the problems caused by media violence are due to the fact that special effects are becoming more sophisticated, and violent depictions more graphic. Media violence is becoming more believable. Making children more prone to violent behavior. Socrates on Civilization and Its Discontents Instinctual Drives and Appetites Freud says that life is the individuals quest for instinctual freedom, which is denied to him by society. He calls this quest for instinctual freedom the programme of the pleasure principle. (Freud, 8). The pleasure principle is satisfied through gratification of the individuals instincts. However, what Freud calls primordial, instinctual drives which man must express at the cost of his own sanity are merely appetites, base passions of the body. (Freud, 8). These base passions, these instincts are not to be satisfied through gratification but to be transcended through reason. Mans quest in life is to know the good, obtaining virtue through that knowledge, and deriving happiness from virtue. The Repression of Mans Essential Nature by Society Freud believes that people are forced to repress instincts by society and would otherwise behave as beasts. Leadership Reflection Essay The purpose of this essay is to ruminate on the definition of leadership and the importance of leadership in an organization. The commitment to lead, guide, and inspire other people has an impact on the organization, but, what is leadership? Leadership can be defined and applied in various ways. A leader must have a vision which guides the team to succeed in meeting a goal. A leader must be flexible to adjust to the different variables and treat each individual using different styles of leadership to maximize output and performance. The Odyssey By Homer Is A Story And Epic Poem - 940 Words
The Odyssey, by homer is a story/epic poem about the protagonist Odysseus who brings anguish and suffering upon himself and his men, which prolongs their arrival to Ithaca. Because of this Odysseus son, Telemachus sets on a journey to find him. This book illustrates Odysseus, and his crew s feats by overcoming misfortunes along the way. Such as defeating a Cyclops named Polyphemus, fleeing from a town of powerful Laestrygonians and resisting manipulation and enchantments from a goddess called Circe. The first problem that Odysseus and his men face is Polyphemus preventing them from leaving the cave. When Polyphemus blocks the entrance of the cave with a monstrous size rock there is no way to get out, unless Polyphemus himself removes it. They resolved this problem by Odysseus and his four man crew tying themselves to the bottom of the goats. Since the goats were apparently the last goats in the cave Polyphemus thought the goats felt bad for their master and he let them free. This experience changed the character by making him brag and provoke Polyphemus. Provoking Polyphemus made him enraged and pray to Poseidon to make Odysseus journey troublesome. This tells us Odysseus is a inadequate leader to support his men because he is willing to put his own men in danger for his own gloat. Mission statements, on the other hand, tend to be more specific and address questions concerning the organizations reason for being and the basis of its intended competitive advantage in the marketplace. Strategic objectives are used to operationalize the mission statement. That is, they help to provide guidance on how he organization can fulfill or move toward the high goals in the goal hierarchy-the mission and vision. As a result, they tend to be more specific and cover a more well- defined time frame. Setting objectives demands a yardstick to measure the fulfillment of the objectives. If an objective lacks specificity or measurability, it is not very useful, simply because there is no way of determining whether it is helping the organization to move toward the organizations mission and vision. 2. HISTORY OF RAHUL BAJAJ Rahul Baja] Chairman, Baja] Auto Limited. Mr. Baja] (b. June 10, 38) is recognized as one of the most successful business leaders of India.
